Last Blog

I've decided to make this my last blog and reflect on my thoughts of blogging. Personally, I am not a big fan of blogging but I can see why people would like it. It is a good way to let your feelings out if you have no one else to tell them too. It's also fun to have something that is your personal thing. You can create this to fit your personality and stuff. I liked that I had the experience to blog but i'm not sure I would ever do it again. Thank you all for follwing me even though you had no choice!

Easter

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter. Unfortunately, this Easter break I did not go home. I had a track meet on Saturday so I had to stay for practices and stuff. My parents are really annoying with trying to find rides and I would need to be back by Monday for night class so I figured I would save everyone the trouble and stay at school. My suitemate Kaitlyn actually invited me to spend Easter with her family. She picked me up from school after work and we drove to her house. I stayed over her house on Saturday and then on Sunday we woke up, got ready and had plans to go to her aunt's house and then to her grandma and grandpa's country club for dinner. Her aunt's house was really fun and the food was great. Everyone was so nice and they even got me an easter bunny candy bar! After, we went to dinner at the country club and I was really nervous because I have never been to a country club before. It is very proper and I didn't feel to comfortable but her family was also very welcoming and very nice so it made it a lot easier. The food was very delicious too. All in all, it was the best Easter yet.

My Weekend

This weekend I went to my nephew's 1st birthday party and it was a lot of fun. My entire dad's side of the family was there which was cool because I don't get to see them often. There were so many kids there. There were 8 total ranging from the ages of 2 months -12 years old. Since I am the youngest, or the one closest to their age, I was the one that was designated to playing and watching them all. So throughout the day, I played various games of tag and hide and seek. I played all the made up games that they wanted. I was theo ne to get their lunch and cut up their meet and get their drinks. I felt like I was the mother of 8 children. By the end of the day, I was absolutley exhausted. I was okay with it though because it gave their parents a chance to interact with other adults and not have to worry about what their kids are constantly up too. My nephew was so tired and overwhelmed by all the kids there that he was out like a light and didn't even get to open his presents! It was super cute. My sister just brought the game Just Dance 3 for Wii so I was showing them how to play. My 5 year old cousin was the cutest at it because he didn't really get the hang of it. We took so many videos and they are priceless. I was upset when I had to leave to get back up to school because it was a good time. I won't be able to go home for Easter so it was good to see all my family.

First Track Meet

On Friday, we had our first track meet ever as a team. It went pretty well. Track is way different in college than it is in high school so a few people were a bit surprised. I ran trak in high school and it was so difficult to accept that you arent going to be the best anymore. We did a lot better than we thought we were going to do and everybody was so excited because we all set school records. We tied for third place with 53 points and everybody worked really hard. Both of my relay teams took third in both races. The other teams there knew that it was our first year and everyone was realy supportive about it. They gave us some tips and everyone was really impressed on how we performed. Our coaches were proud. I was definitely proud of my team and I know that we can do a lot better in future meets.

Thoughts on Bullying

In my ED 340 class, we talked about bullying and all the laws that are being passed against it now. As my teacher was explaining things to me it made me realize how outrageous people are today. Every little thing is bullying nowadays. What happened to the old days when if you were being bullied you needed to defend yourself. It's normal for young children to act out once in a while to say things like "I don't want to be your friend anymore" and then the next day they will be best friends. I believe that some things should not be tolerated like physical pain but how can you even tell if children are telling the truth or not? I believe that parents baby their children too much which puts bigger targets on their backs to be bullied. Children need to learn on their own how to handle things because they are not going to have their parents or some aid to back them up in the realworld. It gets mes so aggravated thinking about how kids are being raised in this day and age. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Boring Teachers

One of the most annoying things about being a student is listening to a teacher talk in a monotone voice. Every time it is always about a not so interesting subject as well. Even though we are in college, it's still hard to pay attention and take notes on a lecture that is so boring. There is so much technology out there that there has to be something that teachers can use to make a boring lecture more fun even if it's just a game like jepeordy. Agree or disagree?

Caldwell College

I hear people talking all the time about how this school is not the best to attend. What a lot of people don't realize is that this school is not that terrible. The teachers are nice and will do anything to help you out. In high school, teachers said that your colllege professors would not care about you but luckily enough, Caldwell does. The campus is small which means less walking. This campus is all about what you make of it. you're here for four years so you might as well make the best of it. People need to loosen up and learn how to have fun!

Spring Break

I don't really have interesting going on in my life at this point in time. I basically just used my spring break to relax and spend time with the family. I also caught up on a lot of sleep. I hung out with my friends a few times too because some of them were home for break as well. The biggest thing that happened on spring break was that I got a new phone. I have had the same phone since senior year of high school and it was so old. Right before I was about to go home for break, I dropped my phone in the toilet so I definitely needed a new phone. I ended up getting an Iphone 4 and I love it. It's just so much smoother than regular cell phones and it's easier to do things on as well. Being home definitely made me want summer to come already. Easter break can't come soon enough!

Caldwell Girls Soccer and Track

Just wanted to tell everyone a little about how the socer and the track team are doing. My freshman year for soccer we did decent. The team did not have the greatest chemistry. We lost in the first round of the playoffs. Last year, we did a lot better. Our team chemistry was a lot better as well. We beat Holy Family for the first time ever in the most outrageous game of our lives. We were undefeated for awhile in our conference and had a pretty good record. Next year, we should be really good. We have had a solid three years of recruiting so everyone is excited. It stinks because the more talent you have, the harder preseason and the practices are.

Track is a brand new sport here at the college. There are a decent amount of girls and a lot more meets than I expected there to be. It's hard to find time to practice certain events because of the fact that we do not have a track on campus or the equipment needed to practice. We have meets mostly up around here and they are called invitationals which means that any track team can join. It should be exciting to see how it turns out. I'll defintitely keep everyone updated on our season!

Online Shopping Problems

It really bothers me when you get ripped off by online things. My friend has been looking for these sneakers called Nike In-Seasons for the longest time. She finally found them online from a store in the U.K.  So she spent the 72 dollars on them and a week later she got her sneakers but they were the completely wrong sneaker! So she emailed them and called up the Nike store at the Willowbrook Mall. She asked if they could order them and the guy said that they could( they were discontinued because  there is an In-Season 2 out.) She was so excited but then the guy hung up on her. So she called back wanting to give them her credit card number so she could get her sneakers shipped to her and he hung up again. She tried one more time to call them but he hung up on her again. How shady was the guy in the Nike store?

Student Athletes

People may think that athletes in school have it easy but we don't.  Some people think we get away with everything but that's not true. It's tough to be a student athlete. Between practice, games, traveling and class it is very hard to find time to do your homework or to get everything done that you need to do. Another thing is that even if your sport ends, you still don't get a break. There's off season and for fall athletes there is spring season which includes gym, practice, class and games. Most of the practices and games are late at night so you don't get back until late. For me, I play two sports so I have double the gym time, double the practice and all day track meets.  Another thing is that there is a team GPA and all the coaches obviously want it to be high so they expect you to get good grades and get mad when you don't.  I hold a lot of respect for other student athletes because it is a rough life. Even though it is tough, I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's the life I chose and I'm gonna make the best of it.

The Children of Today

As everyone else has to if they're an education major, I observe a certain hours a semester. I observe a 3rd grade classroom and it is absolutely awesome. It just amazes me how times have changed since I was a kid.  There was a boy who is about 9 who started doing the "dougie" dance. There were a few kids who would sing songs that they shouldn't be singing but probably don't understand the meaning. Those kids are sometimes so nasty to each other that I would get slapped by my mother if she heard me say some of the things they do. I just find it crazy how much control kids have nowadays. I have a 4 year old niece and the things she says to my brother, which is her father, are just crazy. Her situation is a little tricky though but still. All in all, I feel that, based on what i've seen, some parents are losing control of their kids.

Soccer

I am a soccer player. I've been playing since I was 3 years old. I started doing rec ball in the fall and in the spring and fell in love with it. I played "forward" as a little kid. You can't really have a position at that age because I don't know if you have ever seen a rec soccer game but it is just a bunch of little kids in one giant group on the field trying to get the ball. As I grew up, I began to play on a traveling team for my town. Then I entered  middle school and started for the "A" team as a forward. By the time high school came, I was starting as a freshman. By my sophomore year, I became a defender and stayed that way all through high school. My team was pretty good for my area so it was fun. Then during my senior year, I began playing with a traveling team so I could get looked at for soccer. We traveled to other states so college coaches could look at my team play. Now I play soccer at Caldwell. It's crazy to think that I have been playing for all these years and still enjoy it.

Superbowl

So like everyone else I was rooting the Giants on Superbowl Sunday. My suitemates and I went out an brought ridiculous amounts of snacks and then visited the Dominican lounge so we could get free pizza and wings. We spent the actual game sitting in our room. Something you should know about my roommate is that she is a die hard Giants fan so it was pretty eventful to watch her scream and freak out at the television when something happened. When the Giants won she decided to take a victory lap around our room. Our living room is always filled with various wires for our laptops and phone chargers. As she was taking this lap she tripped over one of the phone cords and fell face first into the small linoleum space that makes up our kitchen. She proceeded to scream and cheer about the Giants while her face was still on the floor. After the celebrations were over, Our friends and I spontaneously decided to go to New York City to celebrate with everyone that was there. So we rode the train into the city and walked to Times Square. Everyone was going nuts and screaming "GO GIANTS". People were giving everyone high fives and running around the streets doing absurd things. We actually ended up meeting my roommates older sister and her friends in the middle of Times Square. Her friends were running football plays in the streets during the red lights and were jumping into the piles of trash that fill the streets of New York. It was an unbelievable experience to see so much pride a city can have for their team.

First Blog Ever

Hi I'm Rebecca and this is my first blog ever. I'm going to try and write interesting things so that people are not bored out of their mind when they are forced to read the blogs. Let me know if I achieve this goal! :)
