Spring Break

I don't really have interesting going on in my life at this point in time. I basically just used my spring break to relax and spend time with the family. I also caught up on a lot of sleep. I hung out with my friends a few times too because some of them were home for break as well. The biggest thing that happened on spring break was that I got a new phone. I have had the same phone since senior year of high school and it was so old. Right before I was about to go home for break, I dropped my phone in the toilet so I definitely needed a new phone. I ended up getting an Iphone 4 and I love it. It's just so much smoother than regular cell phones and it's easier to do things on as well. Being home definitely made me want summer to come already. Easter break can't come soon enough!

Caldwell Girls Soccer and Track

Just wanted to tell everyone a little about how the socer and the track team are doing. My freshman year for soccer we did decent. The team did not have the greatest chemistry. We lost in the first round of the playoffs. Last year, we did a lot better. Our team chemistry was a lot better as well. We beat Holy Family for the first time ever in the most outrageous game of our lives. We were undefeated for awhile in our conference and had a pretty good record. Next year, we should be really good. We have had a solid three years of recruiting so everyone is excited. It stinks because the more talent you have, the harder preseason and the practices are.

Track is a brand new sport here at the college. There are a decent amount of girls and a lot more meets than I expected there to be. It's hard to find time to practice certain events because of the fact that we do not have a track on campus or the equipment needed to practice. We have meets mostly up around here and they are called invitationals which means that any track team can join. It should be exciting to see how it turns out. I'll defintitely keep everyone updated on our season!

Online Shopping Problems

It really bothers me when you get ripped off by online things. My friend has been looking for these sneakers called Nike In-Seasons for the longest time. She finally found them online from a store in the U.K.  So she spent the 72 dollars on them and a week later she got her sneakers but they were the completely wrong sneaker! So she emailed them and called up the Nike store at the Willowbrook Mall. She asked if they could order them and the guy said that they could( they were discontinued because  there is an In-Season 2 out.) She was so excited but then the guy hung up on her. So she called back wanting to give them her credit card number so she could get her sneakers shipped to her and he hung up again. She tried one more time to call them but he hung up on her again. How shady was the guy in the Nike store?

Student Athletes

People may think that athletes in school have it easy but we don't.  Some people think we get away with everything but that's not true. It's tough to be a student athlete. Between practice, games, traveling and class it is very hard to find time to do your homework or to get everything done that you need to do. Another thing is that even if your sport ends, you still don't get a break. There's off season and for fall athletes there is spring season which includes gym, practice, class and games. Most of the practices and games are late at night so you don't get back until late. For me, I play two sports so I have double the gym time, double the practice and all day track meets.  Another thing is that there is a team GPA and all the coaches obviously want it to be high so they expect you to get good grades and get mad when you don't.  I hold a lot of respect for other student athletes because it is a rough life. Even though it is tough, I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's the life I chose and I'm gonna make the best of it.

The Children of Today

As everyone else has to if they're an education major, I observe a certain hours a semester. I observe a 3rd grade classroom and it is absolutely awesome. It just amazes me how times have changed since I was a kid.  There was a boy who is about 9 who started doing the "dougie" dance. There were a few kids who would sing songs that they shouldn't be singing but probably don't understand the meaning. Those kids are sometimes so nasty to each other that I would get slapped by my mother if she heard me say some of the things they do. I just find it crazy how much control kids have nowadays. I have a 4 year old niece and the things she says to my brother, which is her father, are just crazy. Her situation is a little tricky though but still. All in all, I feel that, based on what i've seen, some parents are losing control of their kids.

Soccer

I am a soccer player. I've been playing since I was 3 years old. I started doing rec ball in the fall and in the spring and fell in love with it. I played "forward" as a little kid. You can't really have a position at that age because I don't know if you have ever seen a rec soccer game but it is just a bunch of little kids in one giant group on the field trying to get the ball. As I grew up, I began to play on a traveling team for my town. Then I entered  middle school and started for the "A" team as a forward. By the time high school came, I was starting as a freshman. By my sophomore year, I became a defender and stayed that way all through high school. My team was pretty good for my area so it was fun. Then during my senior year, I began playing with a traveling team so I could get looked at for soccer. We traveled to other states so college coaches could look at my team play. Now I play soccer at Caldwell. It's crazy to think that I have been playing for all these years and still enjoy it.
